Washington DC: Food

I don't know about the rest of you, but when I go on vacation (ok when I go anywhere) food is a BIG deal to me.  I want to eat a lot, and I want to eat well!  After all, calories don't count during vacation right?

Old Ebbitt's Grill

At two separate times we had two friends (who don't know each other mind you) recommend Old Ebbitt's.  We decided to go ahead and take that as a hint and give it a shot.

The pub itself was awesome because of how old and full of history it was.  You could tell that they'd done a lot to preserve that 'old school' feeling that had maintained the pub from the beginning.  As it turns out, Ebbitt's was the first saloon in DC, so that's kind of cool.

The price tag was a bit of a shocker at first but, at second glance, it really wasn't that bad.  There were the high-end items as well as some burgers and sandwiches that would appease the minor tourist.  We decided to 'go big or go home' on this one and I will say, the $25 steak was totally worth every penny.

Food Trucks

Don't judge us.  We don't really have the 'food tuck scene' in Phoenix.  We have seen so many specials on TLC about how amazing food trucks can be so we just couldn't pass up the train of trucks we saw while walking around.  I have to say, it was pretty dang good.  I don't regret a single calorie that was in that Philly Cheese Steak.

This one was my favorite!  I even had to fight off a squirrel who tried to steal my food!  I swear.  I was clearly far more afraid of him than he was of me.

Buffalo Wild Wings

Yes, there are Buffalo Wild Wings in Phoenix.  Yes there are even two different locations rather close to where we live.  However, when we arrived at our hotel and found that we were STARVING, we just HAD to do it.

Ok, I may have been exaggerating about the starvation, but it felt like it.  And I love hot wings.  So there.  Plus, I got to do trivia games which I'm kind of a boss at.  Just sayin'.

World of Beer

As it turns out, there is a World of Beer in Tempe.  I did not know this.  I was very much pleased with this one though.  We got to sample a few beers from the area and the server we had was very knowledgeable and explained the differences to us.  Over all a cool time.

Bailey's Pub and Grille

Please don't think we're alcoholics with so many bars listed here; they just tend to have good food!  And to top it off, I didn't realize this one has a branch here in Phoenix, just under a different name!  MIND BLOWN!

On the last night of our visit, we were doing that thing where we were starved again.  We walked into a place that was fairly close to our hotel.  After waiting for probably a good half hour (between walking in and sitting down) and STILL not having been talked to by a server, we decided to ditch out on that restaurant.

We wandered a bit longer and found Bailey's Pub and Grille.  I won't say the food was the best I've ever had, but it was quite good.  What made it note-worthy for me was the service we received.

We were greeted by hostesses right away. Our server spoke to us within seconds of us walking to the table.  The server even struck up meaningful conversation with us and wished us a good time on the rest of our vacation.

I used to be a waitress, so I know that it's tough.  However, I do not put up with bad customer service.  There is no excuse for that.  Bailey's Pub and Grille earned my mention because they were right on top of my list of well customer service.

We do have food trucks in Phoenix. They are just never anywhere near where we are. ;)
