Minimizing Chaos in My Classroom: Quick Tip

A big thanks to Angela and Jean for hosting this Linky!  I'm a first time contributor to Quick Tips, and I hope some people find it useful!

For my first Quick Tip, it's actually quite easy AND quick!

I spoke a little bit about this over here, but I thought it was worth the re-mention.

Middle School-aged kids [ok any aged kids] tend to come hand-in-hand with a lot of chaos.  I'm one of those controlling teachers who doesn't mind the chaos as long as it's on my terms.  The worst time in the classroom?  When students first walk in.  They all have to scream and run around [Lord knows why] and individually ask me what they need on their desk.  They all seem to choose to ignore the fact that I had just said what they needed out loud!

The way I finally started settling this headache down was by writing exactly what I want to see on top of their desks.  This helps me to quickly check and see who is prepared and who needs a bit of a talking to.  With this new procedure, I am able to take care of whatever 'business' I need to tend to between classes and start my actual lesson rather quickly.

I know it's simple, but I wish I'd started doing it a lot sooner than I had!

This is a great idea! I've never actually done this before, but I've thought about it LOL. I would think it minimizes transition time and that "where did I put my _______." You've convinced me to try this trick tomorrow!

Thanks for linking up!

@Angela,

I wish I had started it sooner! It seems so silly and yet so efficient!
